Fixing Audi Fault Codes: The Audi Engine Management Light
Audi’s SQ5 is a top-of-the-line performance SUV. When it was first announced in 2013, it featured a V6 diesel engine with over 300 horsepower. Therefore, it meets its class and stature with high-speed performance.
With such precision-engineered parts, Audi engineers designed the SQ5 to run at its best at all times. However, like any vehicle, they can occasionally face performance issues, and owners should regularly have them checked and serviced in order to keep expensive failures at bay.
Recently, our client brought their SQ5 to our Macclesfield garage. They had noticed that the check engine light was illuminated and also explained that they were experiencing difficulties starting the engine on cold days.
Issues with components such as diesel particulate filters, glow plugs, turbochargers, and NOx sensors could have caused the check engine light to appear. And some of these issues are labour-intensive and costly to repair.
At Links Automotive, we are Audi specialists, and our technicians were on hand right away to assist our client. In order to determine the root cause of the engine management light, our technician began by investigating any fault codes and assessing them one by one.

Identifying the Engine Fault
Our Audi specialists at Links Automotive cater to the needs of every customer who enters our garage. Our goal is always to get our clients back on the road as quickly and efficiently as possible. Luckily, our technicians were able to use their extensive knowledge of Audi vehicles and diesel engines to diagnose the engine management light.
Our technicians have the best dealership tools on-hand to diagnose all Audi faults. For this specific case, we used the ODIS tool as this is the number one Audi tool used by Audi Dealers and Audi authorised specialists.
The fault codes the Audi was displaying were:
- P226E00 – Particulate filter deteriorated/missing substrate (bank 2)
- P067600 – Cylinder 6 Glow Plug Circuit
- P103200 – Nox Sensor signal too high
- P157000 – Engine Control Unit Disabled
- P200600 – Intake Manifold Runner Control Bank 1 Stuck Closed
Each code was checked one by one by our Audi specialist to determine which component(s) had failed. Our technician also checked the live data when he took the Audi for a test drive. The purpose of this was to ensure there were no underlying issues that may lead to engine failure.
On this occasion we were fortunate that the problem with our client’s Audi was not an extensive engine issue, but rather the glow plugs.
In diesel engines, glow plugs are used to heat the incoming air and fuel mixture in the combustion chamber so that the vehicle starts more easily. They are used mostly on cold days, as diesel engines do not rely on a spark that petrol engines use, instead, they rely on compression to burn the air and fuel. When the glow plugs fail, one or more cylinders will not fire as readily on a cold day, making the engine inefficient and will take longer to start.
Our technician determined that the glow plug in Cylinder 6 had high resistance and was faulty. In order for the SQ5 to run as it should again, this needed to be replaced.

Taking Care of the Glow Plug Repair
As with spark plugs, ignition coils, and other major engine parts, it is recommended to change the entire set of glow plugs. Having experience in this field, our technician recommended the client change all the plugs on the V6 diesel unit.
Our client agreed before we ordered the new parts and they were delivered on the same day from our Audi specialist supplier. As a result, our technician was able to replace them swiftly so that the client could get back on the road safely as soon as possible.
Before leaving the garage, the Audi was cleared of all fault codes using ODIS and test driven to ensure the new glow plugs were working. We were able to get our client back on the road the same day due to the success of the test.
