Audi SQ5 Engine Light Repairs

The engine warning light alerts the driver that something isn’t quite right with the engine or the related systems. It’s vital to have an Audi specialist investigate the underlying problem, as the potential issues could range from a simple fix to complete engine failure. So when our client noticed the warning light, they brought their 2014 Audi SQ5 straight to our Macclesfield garage.

At Links Automotive, our knowledgeable technicians are capable of diagnosing and repairing any problems with Audi vehicles. Count on us to promptly get your Audi back on the road with a fixed issue on the first attempt.

So let’s find out how we got our client’s SQ5 sorted…

Getting to the Source of the Audi SQ5s Engine Light Issue

Our highly skilled Audi technician has extensive experience in addressing issues with Audi warning lights, so they were assigned to fix this problem. With our expertise and in-depth knowledge of Audi vehicles, we were confident in our ability to diagnose and resolve the problem.

Upon examination, our technician discovered two error codes on the dashboard and addressed them immediately. Our technician used their knowledge and our established repair process to connect the ODIS diagnostic tool and cross-reference the error code.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the SQ5 exhibited the following fault code:

  • P200600 – intake manifold flap for airflow control, bank 1 – stuck while closed.
  • P200400 – intake manifold flap for airflow control, bank 1 – stuck while open.

And there was the problem! Our technician searched the codes through the Audi Technical Product Information (TPI) system and identified the relevant bulletin instructions.

Providing the Fix

After confirming the fault codes and technical bulletin, our Audi technician carried out an examination of the intake flap – a component that controls the airflow into the engine – which confirmed that the flap could not move.

So, the next step was to remove an intake boost pipe, then using a borescope, they were able to confirm that there was an excessive carbon build-up inside the flap. Unfortunately, carbon build-up is a result of the combustion process but can be accelerated by driving habits or due to an engine fault.

After further checks, our technician was able to confirm that there was no fault with the engine air intake system, so we knew that this wasn’t the cause of the build-up of carbon.

The next step was to remove the flap and clean out the carbon from the intake flap. However, this still didn’t resolve the issue, so we had to replace the intake flap completely due to the damage to the internals of the motor inside.

After replacing the intake flap, a software update to the engine, as per the bulletin instructions, was carried out. The final step was to update the engine management with the ODIS diagnostic tool. The engine maintenance light was no longer illuminated, and the Audi SQ5 was now ready to return to the owner.
