VW Tiguan Multiple Issues

VW Tiguan warning messages

It’s annoying when you fire up your engine only to see a warning message on your dashboard.

Talk about a nightmare, right?

But imagine getting multiple warnings lighting up your displays; it’s pretty worrying and is something you don’t want to ignore.

When Mr H brought his VW Tiguan to Links Automotive, his vehicle had many issues, including several faults with his steering wheel.

And I think you’d agree the steering wheel is a crucial part of any vehicle and must be in prime condition.

Luckily, our VW experts have the experience, skills, and technical know-how to solve any VW faults and were confident they could help.

VW Tiguan Multiple Issues

What we found

During the initial assessment, the VW’s faults immediately lit up the dashboard upon starting.

One warning message said, “Front Assist Unavailable”, while the other indicated an airbag fault. Mr H was lucky he’d brought his Tiguan to us when he did. His vehicle was no longer roadworthy, putting his safety at risk.

And if these faults weren’t bad enough, his VW was also suffering from these problems:

  • Disabled horn
  • No steering wheel controls (radio, dashboard, and assist systems).

Thankfully, our VW specialists had seen these issues before and had a good idea of how to fix them, but it would require further inspection to find the root cause of the faults.

As your local independent VW specialist, we can access the same technical information as the VW dealership. You always get better than dealership servicing for better value.

Once our expert technicians visually confirmed the faults, they could proceed with the fix.

The Diagnosis The Fault

Before our VW experts referred to the VW bulletins and technical information, they performed an in-depth diagnostic test.

The following fault codes appeared:

  1. B1000 – 1B Igniter for Drivers airbag – Resistance too high
  2. U108E – Controls in the steering wheel – No communications

Sure, these fault codes might not mean much to you. But to our VW technicians, it’s like an X on a map; it points them in the right direction.

While the lack of steering wheel controls is annoying, the more worrying issue is the faulty airbag. If Mr H has a head-on collision, he wouldn’t be protected by the airbag, which could be fatal.

Before each issue is tackled, a methodical plan is set out to find the cause of each fault and fix it.

At Links Automotive, we use a 15-step diagnostic process to solve all issues during the first visit. You save time, stress, and money while avoiding repeat repairs.

Now the fault codes had been confirmed, our VW experts could start investigating each problem.

Using the VW technical information, no relevant technical bulletins were available, meaning live readings needed to be taken from the vehicle.

During the test, no data was showing for the steering control buttons, and there was an indication that the airbag igniter had an “open circuit”.

An open circuit indicates there is a possible wiring problem.

As the dashboard warning messages appeared simultaneously, and with suspected open circuit reading, our experts discovered the steering and airbag shared a common wiring path.

Upon a closer inspection, our experts confirmed both wires passed through a broken ribbon section.

Fixing the VW Tiguan

Our specialists discovered the problem causing the fault codes; we contacted Mr H to discuss our findings and any recommended fixes.

At Links Automotive, you’re always kept in the loop and are in control throughout the entire process. We only begin working on your VW when you give us the green light.

Mr H agreed to our recommendations, and our VW experts repaired the fault.

To fix the broken circuitry, a replacement electronics control unit for the steering column was required. Our technicians sourced a genuine VW replacement and prepared it for installation on the Tiguan.

As a VW specialist, we only use genuine VW or high-quality equivalent parts for all repairs, servicing, and maintenance. Your vehicle always gets the quality it needs to stay running like new.

Installing a steering column control unit isn’t simple; it requires re-coding.

Fortunately, our VW experts have the skills and technical prowess to install and recode the necessary parts to fix Mr H’s VW Tiguan.

Once the necessary work was complete, we extensively road-tested the vehicle to ensure everything worked optimally. We ran a final diagnostic test to confirm no more fault codes were present.

All tests returned clear, showing the faults were no longer present.

The VW Tiguan was fixed, and Mr H drove out with a smile, knowing his vehicle was roadworthy again.

Our technicians had solved the issues in less time than the main VW dealership, and he’d even got better value.

What more could you want?

Summary

Mr H brought his VW Tiguan to Links Automotive as his dashboard had multiple warning messages regarding his airbag and several faults with his steering wheel control system.

Luckily, our VW specialists were on hand to help.

After an in-depth inspection using our 15-step diagnostic process and the VW technical information, we found an issue with the steering column control unit.

The wiring circuit inside the unit was broken and needed to be replaced.

Our VW experts sourced, installed, and reprogrammed a new control unit. This was done faster than the main VW could offer.

Mr H was pleased to have his vehicle back in complete working order and was even happier when he received the bill (which was lower than the main VW dealership quote).
