VW Tiguan DPF Issue
Your Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a key component for all diesel engines, which helps reduce your vehicle’s harmful emissions.
But what happens when it’s faulty?
Mrs R brought her VW Tiguan to Links Automotive when the engine warning light lit up her dashboard.
Urgh, it’s never a nice feeling when that happens.
While her vehicle wasn’t showing any drivability issues, she was worried it could be something serious, and rightly so. Your engine management light is like an early warning system to alert you when something isn’t quite right.
If you ignore the warning, the fault only worsens over time, leaving you with an expensive repair bill. And nobody wants that, right?
Luckily, our VW specialists have years of experience working with VWs and were confident they could solve the problem.

What we found
Upon a visual inspection, our VW specialists confirmed the engine management light lit up once the Tiguan’s engine was ignited.

To get to the bottom of the issue, our expert technicians performed a diagnostic test which returned the following fault code:
P154B 00 – Diesel Particulate Filter, difference pressure sensor faulty.
Fault codes might not mean much to you, but to our specialists, they’re like a road sign to point them in the right direction.
As there was a problem with Mrs R’s DPF, it was crucial to solve it quickly before it worsened.
A faulty DPF might not seem bad at first, but it can cause a host of problems:
- Black smoke from your exhaust
- Failing your MOT emissions test
- Mechanical failure
- Your car might go into “limp mode” to protect the engine from damage.
And more…
It’s not something you want to ignore.
There are many problems DPFs can suffer from, and to discover the root cause, our VW experts referred to the VW technical information.
At Links Automotive, we have access to the same VW technical information as the main VW dealerships. You get dealership-level servicing for better value.
The Diagnosis
As Mrs R’s vehicle has a DPF problem, our specialists ran a series of live data checks and discovered her vehicle had “implausible readings” from the DPF’s pressure sensor.
At Links Automotive, we use our 15-step diagnostic process to solve any faults on the first visit. You save time, stress, and money while getting better than dealership value.
Using the VW technical information (including the technical bulletins), our experts identified a common issue with the sensor.
Our VW specialists like to be thorough with our diagnosis, so we wanted to confirm the issue was the sensor and not a wiring problem.
To test the wiring, our expert technicians used an Oscilloscope (this is something the main VW dealer wouldn’t do) to test the voltage across the wiring.
We’re always thorough in our approach and ensure the fault is correctly identified, saving you time and stress.
The last thing we want to do is send you away only to have you return a few days later with the same issue.
The results were within range, and all wires worked as they should, proving that the DPF sensor was at fault.

Fixing The VW Tiguan
Now our VW experts had identified the cause of the engine management light, we called Mrs R to discuss the issue and our recommendations.
At Links Automotive, you’re always in complete control. We only start fixing your vehicle once you say so.
Once Mrs R had agreed to our recommendations, our VW specialists got to work sourcing a replacement DPF sensor.
As your local VW specialists, we use genuine VW parts or high-quality equivalents, ensuring your vehicle receives the quality it needs to run optimally.
Once the faulty sensor had been replaced, our experts conducted a live data road test to ensure the DPF soot loadings were safe.

All readings from our extensive road testing came back within range, indicating the Tiguan’s DPF was back in full working condition.
And, there was no more engine management light.
Mrs R was overjoyed to have her vehicle back in complete working condition. We’d kept her in the know throughout the whole process and provided better value than the main VW dealer.
What more could you ask for?
