Audi TT Door Latch Fault

How to Solve a Door Latch Fault in an Audi TT

A slick back rooftop, an angry-looking exterior, and a seriously powerful engine under the bonnet are some of the features that make an Audi TT an exceptional coupe. It’s small, handles pretty well, and leaves its competition in the dust…. every time.

It’s no wonder car enthusiasts of all ages and genders prefer buying an Audi TT over the Mazda or the Porsche Boxter, for example.

But every car has its kryptonite and for the Audi TT electrical problems are a weakness. Users have previously reported issues with the electric windows, the instrument cluster and other electrical components.

So, it didn’t come as a surprise when Mr B visited Link Automotive to show us his 2014 Audi TT. We initially thought the client had come looking for a solution for some kind of electrical issue, but the details revealed something else entirely.

Mr B first asked for a Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) service, and our technician obliged. But then he also mentioned a door latch issue due to which our expert had to shift his focus.

Our Audi specialist, Dan Hague, directed himself towards the doors and started looking for the issue while the client explained the problem.

Mr B stated that the driver-side door was automatically locking and unlocking while he was driving.  The motor wouldn’t stop and the constant distraction was making it impossible for the client to focus on the road.

We know that distractions can often lead to accidents on the road, which is why our Audi technician didn’t waste a minute and immediately got to work.

Faults Found

At Links Automotive, fault verification is an important part of the repair, as it helps save time and allows our technicians to find core issues faster.

Dan followed the same process as he got into the client’s Audi TT and went for a test drive. He confirmed that the door was indeed malfunctioning and there was an urgent need to solve the issue. Otherwise, the motor would burn out and the client would need to spend even more money.

So, without wasting a second, our Audi specialist initiated our 15-step diagnostic procedure.

The Diagnosis

We highly depend on the 15-step diagnostic process to help our technicians solve issues as it allows our Audi specialists to be more efficient and accurate with their analysis. Not only that, but together with their knowledge, hard work, and our efficient diagnostic method, the technicians can successfully diagnose faults on the first try.

Dan knew he would hit the bullseye with Mr B’s Audi, as he had done many times before. As a result, he fearlessly dove deeper to find the root cause of the issue.

He started with a full scan of the vehicle in the hope that he would find some fault codes relevant to the issue. However, our Audi technician’s search proved unfruitful. The car was completely free of fault codes, and there was nothing present on the diagnostic tool that could open up the picture for Dan.

So, our Audi specialist removed the door card and started to consult the official Audi wiring diagrams for the Audi TT. He wanted to find the power line, and the ground wire to ensure everything was in perfect condition. Once he had found them, Dan tested the connections and monitored the signals sent in and out of the Electronic Control Module (ECU). It turned out that the ECU wasn’t sending any irregular signals, and that only meant one thing: the door latch itself had malfunctioned.

Now, our Audi technician had to move towards employing the solution, hoping it would solve the client’s worries.

The Solution

Our Audi specialist was about to install the new door latch when the client interrupted and asked him to stop. Mr B wanted Dan to fit an aftermarket latch that he supplied on eBay. But our Audi expert insisted and explained that installing a genuine door latch would be the better idea.

Luckily, our Audi specialist explained the benefits of installing a genuine new Audi TT door latch, and the client followed his recommendations.

Once the door latch was in place, our Audi technician put back the door card and went on a test drive. Thankfully, the motor wasn’t constantly running anymore and the door latch wasn’t locking and unlocking as before.

So, Dan turned back and performed a full vehicle scan to again check for fault codes. The search turned up positive, meaning there were no fault codes present on the Audi TT.

Our Audi specialist completed this repair and moved on to the DSG service. Dan gave the transmission the full service and ensured it was in top shape before calling the client to come back to the garage and pick up his vehicle.

Audi TT Door Latch Fault

Summary

Mr B visited Links Automotive in the hopes that we would solve a door latch issue in his 2014 Audi TT. We immediately accepted the car and our lead Audi technician, Dan, took the vehicle under his wing.

Our Audi specialist used his range of knowledge, experience, expertise, and the 15-step diagnostic procedure as a guiding tool, to solve the door latch problem. The issue wasn’t too difficult to diagnose or solve, but Dan still had to be very careful not to miss any hidden faults along the way.

Normally, one issue leads to another so our Audi technician had to be very careful and vigilant.

Luckily, the issue wasn’t too serious and Dan got to the bottom of it in a jiffy. Our Audi expert found the door latch to be the only culprit. He only had to replace it to solve the client’s problem, which he did.

After the repair was complete, our Audi technician installed new door card clips to ensure the client never experiences any door rattling during his drives. On top of that, we took extra care of the door cards and made sure not to damage or dirty them during the repair.

Later, when Dan called the client he was extremely impressed with the work we had done. Mr B wasn’t expecting a quick turnaround, but we delivered on our promise, and the client went back home with his vehicle as happy as a lark.

This attention to detail together with our knowledge, expertise and better-than-dealership prices are just some of the reasons why new customers our pleased to find us and existing customers keep returning.
